Literature Text

One month (well actually a month and a half) later, you were discharged from the hospital. (FINALLY!!)

"So this is your room. I hope you don't mind it being so close to Alfred's… but it's furthest away from your place." Arthu- England explained. "I'm sorry we couldn't get a house farther away, but it was the closest we had to the hospital. And I figured you didn't want to stay with Prussia and Germany." He sighed.

"Wait- I thought Prussia wasn't a country anymore…" You thought.

"Well you know Gilbert. He's too stubborn to die. But you have to remember that you're not a country either." Matt- Canada said with a quiet smile. You instantly understood once he said that Gilbert was Prussia. Yup. Stubborn as a mule. Or something more stubborn. You suddenly had an image of Gilbert and a mule staring each other down and fought to suppress a giggle.

"What's so funny?" Ar-England asked. You shook your head. Best keep that thought to yourself.

"Oh nothing. By the way- how old are you Arthur?" You asked. He looked at you, blushing a little.

"Well- I'm 1085 (y/n). But believe it or not, I'm one of the younger ones." He cleared his throat. "But far more experienced than most." He said. You raised an eyebrow, but didn't question him… out loud.

"Well thank you. For the room I mean." You said. He smiled.

"Not a problem, just tell me if Alfred bugs you and I'll set him straight." He said with a smile. "Goodnight then."

"Goodnight." You smiled. You looked at Matthew- or Canada- Oh whatever. It didn't matter if he was Canada, or Alfred was America, you would call them by their names. "So- uh… How old are you then?" you asked. He smiled softly.

"I'll be one-hundred and forty four on July twelfth." He said.

"So you're youngest?" You asked, remembering that Alfred was five-hundred something. He shook his head though.

"No- I Think that's South Sudan. He became independent last year I think. Still just a little kid." He explained. "Well- uh, Goodnight." He said. "I'll see you tomorrow. I'll see if I can make you some pancakes." You smiled. "I just hope Alfred doesn't try to feed you junk-food for breakfast."

"Sounds great." You said. "I'll look forward to it." He nodded and waved, then went into his room which was just down the hallway. You sighed and went into your own room.

There was a queen-sized bed against the wall. A large vanity dresser stood across from it and a small closet stood in the corner. You dropped your bag of recently purchased clothing onto the bed and belly flopped with it. You sighed into the crisp sheets and looked at the clock.

"Nine forty five." You sighed. You knew you wouldn't be able to sleep right for the next hundred years, and you still weren't even used to the idea that you would even live that long. Of course, there was the possibility that you got killed, but that wasn't on your list of things to do.

Sitting up, you looked into the mirror and stared. That curl was something that you were also going to have to get used to. It looked so weird… And everyone- even Alfred, which usually he was pretty laid back- told you not to let anyone touch it. Feli-no…Italy and Romano had nearly begged you not to let anyone touch it. Seeing as they both had one that looked exactly the same, you took their word for it. But it was definitely on your list of things to ask F-Italy about. Haha. Fitaly.

You quickly dressed into your new pajamas and went across the hall to brush your teeth. You brushed your hair down, carefully avoiding the curl, and then went back to your room.

"You look good in those." A voice said from behind you as you shut the door. You yelped and jumped what felt like three feet in the air. Clutching your chest, you turned around to see Alfred sitting on your bed. You took a deep breath and let out a half laugh and gasp.

"A- Alfred! Jeez- you scared the crap outta me!" you gasped. He just laughed. "What are you doing in here?... and what the heck are you wearing?"

Alfred was wearing a black sweatshirt and black cargo pants with black matching sneakers. But even stranger was the black beanie he was wearing.

"Well I'm no expert in fashion (y/n), but I'm wearing all black." He said.

"Because…?" You said with raised eyebrows.

"Well- because we're going to sneak into your old house." He said, holding up another set of black clothing. You frowned. It wasn't that you didn't want to, but you knew that it was not something you should do. At all. Especially if you were going to keep them safe…

"I don't know Alfred… It doesn't seem like a good idea." You said with a frown. He laughed.

"I didn't say that we were going to talk to your parents. We're going to get into your room and get stuff you might want for memories. See… I never got that, and a lot of us didn't. But I know some of us did.  Like Hong kong? He got to keep his headphones… and My brother has that Bear he carries around all of the time… Kuma whatsis."  He said. "I want you to have something too."

You smiled at him. You thought it so sweet that he cared that much about you. But you felt a little bad that he didn't have something.

"Okay… but you have to promise me that you won't do anything reckless." You sighed. "And when I say that, I mean it." You said. He nodded.

"Scouts honor." He said, saluting with the three fingers. You raised an eyebrow.

"When were you a scout anyway?" You asked with a small frown. He grinned at you deviously.

"Well… let's see… it was established in 1910… so it was a hundred and two years ago." He said. You sighed.

"Did you ever finish?" you asked, pulling the sweatshirt over your pajamas and the cargos over as well.

"Three times." He said. "Alright lets go before my brother finds us." He laughed. You began to walk towards the door, but he passed you and opened the window. You raised an eyebrow.

"Al… we're on the third floor…" you said. He just laughed it off and stepped out.

"Well we can't just go out the front door. Your parents, or my brother will see us."

You watched in fascination as he easily jumped out, caught onto a branch ten feet below and gracefully jumped down from there. You stared and then called down quietly.

"Alfred F Jones… Are you trying to kill me? I can't do that!" you said with a huff. You heard him laugh again from below and then you saw him come out from under the tree and directly under the window.

"Just jump! I'll catch you!" He said. You looked at him like he was crazy. "Don't you trust me (y/n)?" he said. You sighed. Yes you trusted him. Whole heartedly you did, but jumping out of a third-story window was a whole other thing. You saw as he held his arms out.

"If you drop me… I swear I will never speak to you again." You said. He nodded and continued to hold his arms out. You took a deep breath, and leaped. An involuntary squeak left your lips as you did so, and it felt like your stomach was dropping as you fell. You squeezed your eyes shut in fear.

Suddenly you fell into two strong arms. You peeked one eye open to see Alfred with that big goofy grin.

"Would you look at that? I made quite the catch." He said. You smiled.

"Looks like you didn't drop me, so I'll have to speak to you." You said as he put you down. He laughed.

"Well yeah! Cuz I'm the hero!" he declared. You quickly covered his mouth.

"SHHH! They'll hear us!" You said. He nodded and you took your hands away.

With as much stealth as you could muster, you snuck around to the front of the house, and then dashed to behind Arthur's black car. Peeking out, Alfred made sure that no one was watching.

"Looks like your parents are watching a movie or something." He said. "The living room lights on, but nothing else. Isn't your room upstairs?" He asked. You nodded. "Kay, I have a plan." He said.

"And what would that be?" You asked, fearing the answer.

"I'm gonna go knock on the door, make a distraction. You find a way into the house and go to your room. Get something, and then flip the lights on and off to signal me. I'll go and catch you again. Kay?" He said. You raised an eyebrow.

"Alright, but if you plan on doorbell ditching my parents…"

"You know I wouldn't do that. I've figured this all out." He promised, holding up a pinkie. You entwined your own with his and nodded.

"Alright." You said. "Let's go." He nodded in agreement and stood with you. You both quickly made your way to your house and you snuck around to the gate to your backyard. You easily opened it and slipped inside and closed it behind you. You waited until you heard the doorbell and then your parents voices as they answered the door. You went in through the basement door and slipped quietly up the stairs, making sure not to make a sound.

"So what brings you here Alfred?" you heard your mother ask as you slipped past them and went up the second set of stairs. You heard him respond, but couldn't quite make out what he said, but it obviously convinced them. You opened your room door, and went inside.

It looked exactly like it did when you had left on that morning. Nothing had been touched. You looked around, wondering what on earth you could possibly keep for the rest of your life that would allow you to remember who you were. Not headphones like Hong Kong or whatever… not your I pod. That would probably not mean as much… and your parents would flip if they couldn't find it when they finally went through all your stuff. Nor would a stuffed animal mean much. You weren't particularly attached to any of them.

Then you looked at your jewelry box. You rarely used it, but you kept a lot of important things in it. You went over silently and opened it, listening to make sure Alfred was still talking… which he was.

There were a few pairs of earrings… a ring that your best friend had made you in third grade… and the locket.

You picked it up and looked at it. It was a golden locket with a thin chain. In the heart-shaped compartment were two pictures. One was of your school picture, and the other… You blushed. Alfred's picture was in there. You remembered now… this was a gift he had given you last year for your birthday, and you had secretly put his school picture in there. You loved how he looked in that football uniform…

You nodded and stuffed it in your pocket, not willing to try and put it on with a hoodie on. You then spotted a small football that was patterned with the American flag, signed by some famous football player. You couldn't read the signature, but you had gotten it for Alfred's birthday, which was two days ago. You had still been in the hospital. You grabbed that as well.

Quickly, you flipped your light switch on and off, and then went to the window. You heard Alfred say something, and then your parents said something, and then they shut the door. You opened the window and climbed out onto the small balcony, and then shut it behind you.

"I'm here, you can jump." He said. You nodded and then repeated your earlier actions and leaped from the balcony. He caught you again and you stood.

"You chose a football? Well not that I don't like it, but I kind of expected something different…" You laughed.

"This is for you silly." You said, holding it out for him. He raised an eyebrow. "You said that you didn't have something, so I decided to get you one. I owe you at least that much." You smiled. He grinned.

"Well you, (y/n), have some hero-like taste." He said. "Thank you. You really didn't have to do th-!"But you covered his mouth.

"Yes I did. Besides, I didn't get you a birthday gift." You said, taking your hand away. "happy fourth of July." You said.

Alfred looked at you for a minute, as if debating something in his head. You were about to ask what the heck he was thinking about, when he suddenly leaned forward and kissed you.
